Half Harley, Half Vincent – 1984 Sportster Custom

In America, Cruiser, Custom by Abhi1 Comment

Post Sale Update: Looks like the seller should have taken the $6,100 from three years ago, as this “sold” on Bring a Trailer for $4,300 after 9 bids. However, it seems that the high bidder backed out, so I guess we may see it up for sale again some time in the future…

6-30-20 Update: Another two years later and this Sportster is up for sale again – but this time it’s guaranteed to find a new home as it’s being sold with no reserve! Find it in Dallas, Texas with bidding up to $2,000 here on Bring a Trailer.

8-24-2018: Three years later, this cool custom is back up for sale. It’s now available on Hemmings for $10,800 or best offer.

Post Listing Update: This custom Sportster did not meet reserve with 12 bids up to $6,100.

Under the name of Classified Motorcycle Company (and before Classified Moto got big), Dan Wilson built 27 kits for Harley Sportsters to turn them into a quasi-Vincent look alike. For a little more information on the concept, check out this article from The Kneeslider.

This example has the Vincent kit on a 1984 Sportster XLH (VIN: 1HD1CCH32EY116383) and includes all the original parts except the Akront aluminum wheels, which have been replaced with different aluminum wheels. Since the bike was put together, the bike has had 570 miles put on it. The bike is claimed to run well though it does leak oil out of the primary cover. Just because something’s rare, it doesn’t mean it’s good, but what do you say? Interesting way to spice up a Sportster or is it just a bastardization of two legendary marques?
