Post Listing Update: The seller relisted this bike several times but never got any interest at the asking price of $18,000. A few weeks later, he pulled the bike off eBay so he may have sold it for an undisclosed amount.
A couple of years ago, I featured an oddball custom kit bike as part of a “Guess That Bike” feature. It was a Magnacycle – it stumped the regulars and no one was able to figure it out at the time. Thanks to reader Bob K, I can now feature one for sale if you were enamored with this rare Harley-powered custom.
As I mentioned in the Guess That Bike post: “The Magnacycle was dreamed up and built by Jerry Magnuson, a tool and die maker based out of Santa Ana, California. It took him nearly a decade to go from the idea to bike #1, but the first bike was acquired by none other than Arlen Ness.
According to the builder, he produced about 10 kits before selling the rights to another company. They produced about another 20, and that was the extent of the production run. Original MSRP was $799 (another $4000 gave you extras like the exhaust system without muffler, handlebars, crossbrace, instrument panel, battery, fuel gauge, and more), and as you can see, the design was all about getting the center of gravity to be low. The kit was designed to accept a Sportster engine – there were plans for a Magnacycle II with a Honda engine but that never happened.” For more information , check out Magnacycle.net.
This example is said to be in excellent shape with a ’72 Sportster motor that’s been bored out (.030) and has Andrews cams, a S&S carb, electronic ignition, and more. The seller says that the motor has less than 10k miles on it and that the has “much documentation.”
