Parilla was best known for their high cam motor – though they ended bumping up displacement to 250cc in response to the demand for more power from the US market. The 250cc engine made it into a variety of Parilla’s models, including the Wildcat, Trailmaster, Tourist, and GS.
The 250cc motor was good for 26 horsepower, and depending on the model you could see top speeds above 100 miles per hour. This looks to be a 250GS – note that there’s confusion and debate about if the GS was simply a Sport version of the Tourist or if it was designed to be a road racer from the factory. This bike came out of a collection in New York, and while the motor has good compression, the bike will need some work before it’ll be ready to get back on the road. Per the seller, this bike looks like it may have been a road racer in the past. The seller says this is a ’56 but other sources suggest that the 250cc motor was only built between ’61-’65. Maybe the bike is newer or the frame is a ’56 and it’s had an engine transplant?
