Yamaha released the XS11 in 1978 as the most powerful production motorcycle on the planet. Astoundingly it was Yamaha’s first 4 stroke 4 cylinder motor ever. In 1979 Yamaha issued the XS 11 in two trim levels: ‘Standard’ and ‘Special’. This was to continue throughout the entire production run. The Special had higher bars, a stepped seat, smaller diameter rear wheel, teardrop gas tank, fully adjustable suspension and special trim. The XS 11 may have been the bike that proved once and for all that you could put huge power through a shaft drive.
The XS1100 used an air cooled 4 cylinder, 4 stroke, Dual Overhead Cam 1101cc motor that made 95 HP and 65 lbs/ft of torque. A 5 speed transmission and shaft drive pushed it to a top speed of 165 with stock ¼ mile time listed at 11.73 seconds. The bike had dual single piston front brakes and a single rear disc. Weight of 603 LBS and standard fuel capacity of 5.3 gallons.
This 1980 XS1100 has been heavily accessorized. 1193 cc Wisco bore kit, Leather Lyke Saddlebags, Yamaha NOS fairing, 6.3 gallon Yamaha gas tank, Bates Tail Trunk mounted on a Yamaha rack, Custom seat, and MC Enterprises engine guards. The odometer shows 133,678 miles. You can find this bike in Shawnee, Kansas at a price of $4,450 right here on Cycle Trader.
