Aesthetics are subjective, so I’ll just say I’m not a huge fan of how this bike looks. But the seller has had it for 17 years and done a tremendous amount of work to the mechanical side of things. Unfortunately, he has to let it go because he’s moving overseas. I think that with a little bit of cosmetic attention, this could be a hell of a vintage rider.
Here’s just a taste of what the seller has improved over his nearly 2 decades with the bike: Works Performance shocks, Stein-Dinse front springs, Bitubo dampers, Brembo 4-piston calipers, Agostini rearsets, Corbin seat, Tarozzi clipons, electronic ignition, PHF carbs, Telefix fork brace…the list goes on and on. He has also delinked the brakes.
I don’t mind some of the cosmetic changes by themselves – red powdercoating, fairing removal, etc. I normally love the tank off the 1000S. But all together it just doesn’t look right to my eyes. Still, I think there’s a ton of potential here for someone that wants to ride a classic bike daily and would like to customize the looks. The main flaw right now is a minor oil leak that the seller explains.
If you’re as excited about this bike as I am, you can find it here on Craigslist in Bernal Heights, California for $4,100.
