Post Sale Update: After 29 bids on eBay, this CB900F sold for $2,350…to a Bike-urious reader! More details coming soon.
Available for just two years in the US, the CB900F Super Sport was made famous by Fast Freddie Spencer in Superbike racing. Honda initially had no plans of selling the 900 in the US because the US already had the CB750F and CBX. But US riders wanted a bigger version of the former, and sometimes the squeaky wheel actually gets the grease. Honda responded to the demand by supplying the 900F in ’81 and ’82. This example stands out as the reserve has already been met even though bidding is barely over a grand and because it has a rare Hondaline factory fairing (though it does have some cosmetic issues).
The 901cc inline four engine put out 89 horsepower and 56 pound-feet of torque, good for a top speed of about 135 miles per hour. For more on the 900F, check out this profile from Motorcycle Classics.
In addition to the fairing, this CB900F (VIN: JH2SC0101CM106086) includes both MAC Tri-Y 4-into-1 and V&H chrome exhausts, as well as a Daytona fork brace and Corbin seat. Recent services include a carb cleaning/jetting for the K&N filters and aftermarket exhaust, a new battery, valve adjustment, new valve cover gasket, and a brake bleed. Everything is said to work and the only issue seems to be some scratche son the left side of the fairing (the fairing light cover could use a polish as well).
