I haven’t seen one of these for sale in years, now I’ve seen two in a month! In addition to having one of the best names in the business, the Suzuki DR BIG featured the biggest single cylinder motorcycle engine available when it was released.
A production version of the DR-Z (a Paris-Dakar racer piloted by Gaston Rahier) the Suzuki DR750 featured the world’s largest single cylinder engine in a production bike – only to get topped by the DR800 in 1990. As a ’88, this is one of the first year models. Earlier bikes had a larger fuel tank to go with the 727cc, 52 horsepower thumper. For more information, check out this summary from Suzuki Cycles.
This example has just over 20,000 miles, less than 1,000 of which have been added since a minor restoration in 2012. The bike has a Laser exhaust, the larger carbs from a DR800, a custom chain guard, and lowering links to complement several new replacement parts.
