Post Sale Update: This Comerford Special sold for $5,799 after 25 bids on eBay.
This vintage speedway racer is missing a whole lot of parts and I suspect it’s probably doomed to spend the rest of its life as a display piece, but just look at it! Here’s a textbook example of classic cool, even if the engine is missing many parts that are critical for functioning.
For more information on Comerford-Wallis and why the JAP engine was so well-suited to speedway racing, check out this post on The Vintagent. Or for more information on the frame/design of the bike, check out Cyber Motorcycle.
As you’ll see below, this bike has been up for sale a couple of times now in the last two years. The sellers differ on the year of production between ’33 and ’34, but either way this is a piece of classic motorcycle racing goodness. The engine is missing the flywheel, rod, piston, and camshaft (though the last piece is separately included in the sale). The paint is supposedly original and one of the seller believes this is a 500cc (89x99mm) engine as referred to in The Vintagent post above. Would you try to save this or would it be too much work?
Either way, find this Comerford-Wallis racer for sale in Grant, Florida with bidding up to $3,750
Note that this bike was listed on eBay about 15 months ago, and bidding got up to $7,022
