Originally sold only in Japan, the Yamaha FZR250 was one of the few “learner legal” race replica bikes. A small amount of these bikes eventually made their way to other countries, just like this excellent example in front of you. Yet despite the gray-market importation, this bike has a California title and plate.

This bike weighs just 366 pounds wet, but the 249cc 4-cylinder engine produces 45 horsepower and revs to an astonishing 17k rpm! Built for just two years, it was eventually replaced by the FZR250R, which got Yamaha’s EXUP technology.

This specific Yamaha FZR250 has just over 16,000 miles and is “mechanically very solid”, though cosmetically not perfect. It has a recent service, but the seller says that the major flaws are a poor paint job, and a couple of much more minor issues.
