Compared to the RD350, the extra 50 cc of the Yamaha RD400 brought a lot more civility. The engine was more flexible, though you could still easily wheelie the bike in 2nd gear, and though the frame was stiff, it was more comfortable to ride. It was really was the perfect example of how the RD series had evolved from a hooligan’s toy into a more refined, but still enjoyable, sportbike. Here we’ve got two polar opposites of the breed – a low mileage, “original down to the tires” example and a heavily modified race replica done as an homage to Kenny Roberts. Pick your poison!
“Mr. Hyde” was owned by a professional motorcycle mechanic and has less than 2,700 miles. It’s had a recent tune-up and carb rebuild, and is almost perfect cosmetically.
