Fans of Che Guevara (or those of you that have seen the movie The Motorcycle Diaries) may be aware that ‘La Poderosa’ translates to ‘The Mighty One’, and it’s what Che called his Norton steed during the trip.
The movie is worth a little bit of a tangent just to highlight this quote from Jose Rivera, the screenwriter:
“Every generation needs a journey story; every generation needs a story about what it is to be transformed by geography, what it is to be transformed by encounters with cultures and people that are alien from yourself, and you know that age group 15 to 25, that’s the perfect generation to get on a motorcycle, to hit the road, to put on your backpack and just go out.”
If you have no idea what I’m referring to, here’s the trailer for the movie, which you should check out:
All this comes up because someone’s built a desert sled not out of a Norton, but instead out of a Triumph Bonneville – and he’s also called it La Poderosa. The bike has 18,772 miles on it and has a serious amount of upgrades, highlighted by a British Customs 904cc big bore kit, Bella Corsa steering dampener, cosmetic pieces from a Triumph Scrambler, Norman Hyde solo seat, Progressive rear shocks, Race-Tech Gold valves and springs in the front forks…the list goes on and on, and it’s full of good choices.
