Post Listing Update: This Gold Wing was pulled off of eBay due to “an error in the listing.” I assume the seller got an offer that he/she liked, final sale price unknown.
In just the second year of production, Honda decided to release a limited edition of its instant classic Gold Wing for the American market. It was said to commemorate America’s 200th birthday, and depending on who you ask there were between 2,000 – 3,400 examples built. Here’s #536.
The base model had a 1,000cc motor, 5 speed transmission and shaft final drive. It produced 80 HP and claimed a top speed of 125 MPH. Brakes were 2 disc front and a single disc in the rear. The fuel tank held an enormous 5 gallons, and MSRP was $2,960. The Limited Edition sold for $3,295. Your extra money got you Custom Candy Brown paint with gold pinstripes, gold wheels, chrome plated nuts and bolts, higher handlebars, chrome plated radiator, thicker seat, a special tool kit (chrome plated tools and a leather pouch), and a leather key pouch with a key blade that was chrome plated.
This example (VIN: GL1-2035537) has 32,613 miles and it’s said to be in “great original condition.” Everything is said to work but “the speedometer moves slow.” While it has the original owner’s manual and key pouch, it’s missing the original tool kit (which has been replaced with a generic one).
