Post Sale Update: This ES2 sold for $11,000 after 2 bids on eBay.

Introduced in 1927, the Norton ES2 started as a sporting single but over its nearly 40 years of life technology (and other models) passed it by. Still, it apparently makes a nice platform for a Manx knockoff that you can enjoy for much cheaper than the original. The ES2 got a significant revamp in 1959 with an AMC gearbox, updated cylinder head, 60 watt alternator, and most importantly, a Featherbed frame. What’s this to you – a poser or a cost effective way to have fun and look good at the same time?

The 490cc motor produced 25 horsepower, while wet weight of the stock bike was 392 pounds. For more on the ES2, check out this profile on Hemmings. This example (VIN: 83551) is obviously highly modified, and the work resulted in a recent trophy, as it was the “Winner of the Hagerty Insurance choice award at the Ace Corner Barber’s Vintage Days 2018” It featured the original frame and motor, the latter of which is paired with a NOS carb.
