Whenever I note that an auction is coming up where motorcycles will be offered, I like to highlight my personal favorites for your perusal. Mecum’s Kansas City auction (coming up on December 4th) is only featuring 3 motorcycles, so I guess I’ll just show you all of them. They all happen to be American made cruisers.
Uno: 2005 Big Dog Mastiff
Big Dog Motorcycles tries to combine custom bike looks with better availability and reliability. I’m not one to say whether or not they succeeded at that, but the Mastiff features a 117 cubic inch S&S motor and a 6-speed Baker tranny. This specific Mastiff actually comes with a matching trailer AND 1967 El Camino. Why don’t all motorcycles come with classic trucks?
Dos: 1967 Harley-Davidson FLH Electra Glide
This Electra Glide was restored as a resto mod and includes a S&S carb and cylinder heads. Last year, it won Most Outstanding Cycle in the bottom showroom of the AutoRama show in Detroit.
Tres: My favorite of the three, a 1977 Harley-Davidson Super Glide
This Super Glide was a cover bike for Ironworks Magazine in May 2012 (unfortunately Ironworks was shut down in March of this year). This bike was built as a tribute to Pure Hell, a front-engine dragster built by Rich Guasco:
The paint scheme is perfect as a tribute, and I love the aftermarket Model A spotlight used as a headlight. Alternating color spokes in the front wheel contrast with the solid rear drag wheel. I’m a fan.
