Post Sale Update: This RZ500 sold for $18,099 after 20 bids on eBay in Muskegon, Michigan.
Yamaha’s RZ500 (also known as the RD500LC) was a two-stroke rocket that was kept out of America thanks to EPA regulations. Only built between ’84 and ’86, it’s now a desirable collector’s bike – and this one’s already been titled in the US.
This was sold as a road bike race rep of the Grand Prix racer YZR500. The 50 degree V-4 engine yielded over 80 horsepower through a 6-speed transmission. For more information, check out RZRD500.com.
This example has just 7,450 kilometers (4,656 miles) and it’s been with the seller since 2013. It was recently made street ready with a new battery/tires/chain/wheel bearings/steering head bearings/transmission oil/petcock valve/front brake pads, and more. The carb float bowls were cleaned and the seller upgraded the forks with new seals, Race Tech springs, Gold Valve emulators, and a modified damper rod (per Race Tech). Because of the modified damper rods, the Anti Dive units have been disabled, though the seller left them to keep a stock appearance. Everything is said to work, though the seller notes that he put bicycle tape over the original grips as they are “rock hard”.
