Normally the Laverda marque evokes thoughts of big triples with excellent style and exhaust notes. This is why I was especially stunned to discover this diminutive chopper – the Laverda CU 125 Custom Ride.
Never imported to the US, the CU 125 has some seriously impressive components – Grimeca wheels, Dell’orto carb, Marzocchi forks, Brembo brakes, and a Sebac rear shock. The 124cc engine is a two-stroke unit – I only found one source with information about this, and it claimed the bike produced 23 horsepower. I’m going to assume that’s not true. Still, it came with a luggage rack and backrest for the inevitable cross country trip you’ll take with it!
This specific Laverda CU 125 Custom Ride (VIN: 3547) has just 2.2 miles though it was stored in a humid environment. While the paint looks great, there’s pitting of the chrome and a few things will need to be addressed: the mirrors are missing, the high/low beam switch is broken, the horn doesn’t work, and there’s dent on the left side of the tank. Then again, you’ll probably never ever see one of these in the flesh…
