7-31-16 Update: A month later, Miss Thriller is back up for sale (having been relisted several times). Bidding was highest after the first auction at $7,200, so maybe they’ve decided to lower the reserve this time around. Find it for sale with an unmet opening bid of $1,000
Post Listing Update: 16 bids up to $7,200 were not enough for this BMW to meet reserve.
Built by Spirit Lake Cycles, “Miss Thriller” is a custom based on a BMW R100R. It was their show bike for last year and now they’re selling it so that they can build some other bikes.
The modifications include Progressive fork springs, a fully adjustable Ohlins shock, matte silver engine/rear drive, a modified Norton Commando tank, oxblood leather seat, and a hand built tail that includes the tailight and integrated exhaust. The tail is the highlight of the build for me, though the pinstriping and hand lettering ain’t bad either. According to the seller, the name of “Miss Thriller” comes from a vintage speedboat in Iowa – it was claimed to be the fastest commercial speedboat in the US back in the 20s thanks to the use of two aircraft engines. Here’s an article from 1970 when Miss Thriller was involved in a fatal accident:
Last year Miss Thriller won Best Cafe at the Venice Vintage Motorcycle Rally. For more on the build, check out this feature on Pipeburn.
