Post Sale Update: After a whopping 100 bids on eBay, this movie prop sold for $50,029.99!
If you’ve seen Dumb and Dumber, you must remember the mini bike that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels use to get to Aspen. According to the seller, two bikes were used for filming, and once shooting wrapped both were given away. One was given to Planet Hollywood, and the other was gifted to Gordie Merrick, the film’s transportation coordinator. Gordie let it sit for a couple of decades and then sold it to the current owner who “restored” it last year to look as it did during filming.
The seller claims everything works but he has not ridden it since he brought it back to life. The sale will include a Letter of Authenticity from Mr. Merrick to represent the bike, though the props like the helmet, bag, and briefcase are not original. The seller will include any parts he replaced in the work as well as some spares.
I thought the opening bid ask was ambitious at $8,5000, but bidding has very quickly surged to $30,000 so I clearly have no idea how important this little bike is to someone. Good news is that 10% of the sale will go to the Best Friends Animal Society. Find it in Houston, Texas
