NCR is unobtanium for most of us, but it doesn’t cost anything to simply lust after their wares – and lusting is all I can do with this exotic called the Leggera 1200. It started as a Ducati Hypermotard but thanks to extreme fettling it produced 30 more horsepower and 16 more pound-feet of torque. More impressively? It weighs 295 pounds, 125 less than the stock bike! Now for the bad news: the NCR Special cost approximately $140,000 (though you could get the “base” model for just $76,000).
For more on the Leggera, check out this story on Cycle World – in a piece full of fascinating numbers, the most interesting one might just be that NCR was selling about 15 of the base model a year. The bulk of the weight savings is attributable to the extensive usage of titanium and carbon fiber. For example, the titanium frame weighs just 13.9 pounds.
This example (VIN: ZDM1YACP48B008196) is not an official NCR bike. Instead, it’s a Ducati Hypermotard that someone has thrown the NCR catalog at. Annoyingly, the seller doesn’t disclose a detailed list of what parts were installed, but a quick glance through the photos shows that he’s even included small pieces like the titanium gas cap. It has just 202 miles – this bike has spent more time being customized than ridden. In the seller’s words, “this amazing machine is being offered at far less than the cost of the project, and $107,000 less than the price of the NCR Leggera that inspired the build.” Both points might be true, but is this worth $40k? Here’s hoping the seller shares some more details about what he’s installed (and if there’s any motor work that’s been done as well).
