Needs Some Work – 1957 TWN Tessy

In Germany, Scooter by AbhiLeave a Comment

Here’s a Tessy scooter from ‘the other Triumph’ that the seller calls “well used.” But first, a little primer on TWN (Triumph Werke Nuremberg). Did you know that the Triumph you know and love in England was started as a bicycle manufacturer by a German named Siegfried Bettman in 1886? A decade later, Bettman created another bicycle company in his hometown of Nuremberg – he called it the German Triumph Cycle Company. 7 years later, the German Triumph (eventually rebranded TWN) started making motorcycles. For more on TWN, check out this profile on Motorcycle Classics.

I’ve featured TWN motorcycles (like this Cornet) before, but I did not know they had made a scooter until now. Meet the Tessy, a 125cc scooter that was offered alongside the 200cc Contessa.

Like the seller says, this is “well used”. The seller suggests it could either be restored or ‘ratted and ridden’, either way the motor turns freely. Find this Tessy for sale in Dayton, Ohio for $1,200 here on Craigslist. Note that the seller offered this on Modern Vespa a year ago for $1,600.
