Post Sale Update: This Honda CBX550 was pulled early.
The Honda CBX550 is barely known in the United States, as it was never officially imported. Released in 1983, the CBX 550 F2 sport touring motorcycle came with an air cooled, four stroke, 572cc engine with 60 horsepower at 10,000 rpm.
This bike was full of innovations of the time, including air assisted linked front forks, TRAC (Honda’s anti-dive control), and inboard disc brakes (which admittedly did not hold up well). Overall, the CBX550 was a solid sports bike, with quick turn in and good acceleration out corners. Even better, it handled its own as a tourer, with a six speed transmission that had excellent gear ratio spacing, a decent seat, and a good passenger grab handle. It’s simple but effective.
This specific Honda CBX550 has a couple of legal issues that need to be taken care of, and it’s going to need some mechanical work. This bike gets extra points as it comes with the hard to find factory fairing. We’d counter the seller with a lower offer, use the savings to bring this bike back to life, and enjoy a sportbike that you probably won’t ever see another one of on the roads.
