The first all Italian Bimota, the DB1 was crucial in the firm’s history, as its commercial success saved Bimota from near-certain bankruptcy. Despite the confusing “RS” on the fairing, this is a higher spec version called Bimota DB1SR which is brand new.
Finding a DB1SR in any condition is hard enough, as just 153 were built. But a new in the crate example? Who knows if we’ll ever see another one – though the seller suggests there might be another one out there. The SR’s uprated performance came from removing the restricted air filters and exhausts, and replacing the 36mm carbs with 41mm Dell-Ortos. The European spec bike put out 82 horsepower, about a 15 horsepower increase from the DB1. Top speed is 142 miles per hour, but the bike came with 4-piston front calipers to help slow it down. This specific Bimota DB1SR (VIN: ZBM750LDB1SR00652) has…1 mile. It’s mounted to the crate base – the top has been removed so that the bike can be seen, but the packaging has still been stored. This bike will presumably go right into another collection and never be ridden, but hey – it’s still worth the look.
