In 2005, BMW updated the RT with the 1,170cc boxer engine, good for a ~15% increase in horsepower and ~10% bump in torque – all while reducing the weight of the package by over 40 pounds. God bless progress. It immediately won Best Touring Bike awards from Cycle World and Motorcyclist, and the only gripe people really seem to have with them is the servo-assist ABS brakes, which were gone by 2007. All that is well and good, but I typically wouldn’t feature a modern-ish common touring motorcycle on this site. But for $4,000 – this is a nice price for a well-equipped bike that’s ready to take you around the country (or farther).
This example has 56,000 miles on the odometer and it’s well equipped with heated grips, the OEM bags, Touratech HID lights, Ohlins suspension front and rear, Rick Mayer seat, Gerbing thermostat on the dash, Autocom communication system, and more. For the price, this ain’t bad at all. Find this RT for sale here on Craigslist for $4,000 in Spanaway, Washington.
