The Yamaha DT-1 250 was an absolute game changer when it was released, as it essentially created and dominated the market in the US. In fact, some argue it’s the most significant motorcycle in Yamaha’s history – the initial production run of 12,000 was instantly scooped up, and competitors immediately rushed out their takes on the cheap, reliable dual-sport.
The 250cc single-cylinder engine, combined with knobbies, Ceriani-type forks (which Yamaha called “Enduro-Travel Forks”), and ample clearance all helped to make a bike so popular that it eventually sold nearly 50,000 units a year! This example (VIN: DT1-22131) is said to be in “show quality condition.” It’s on offer from the second owner, who had the engine rebuilt “after it had been sitting unused for decades.” Everything is said to work as intended, and the cosmetics have been well-preserved. The odometer shows just 1,402 miles and the seller believes that to be the actual mileage. The sale includes the original key, tool kit, owner’s manual, and a Clymer manual.
