Post Sale Update: This ELR sold for $20,100 after 46 bids on eBay.
A limited edition tribute to Eddie Lawson, just 750 examples of the Kawasaki KZ1000R ELR (Eddie Lawson Replica) were built between 1982 and 1983. With the exception of subpar rear shocks, the press and the public loved this bike and how aggressively it was set up.
The 998cc inline four produced 79 horsepower in a bike that weighed 543 pounds. Top speed was just shy of 130, and none of those numbers matter to me because I think this is one of the definitive muscle bikes of all time. Want to learn more about this special bike? Check out this write-up from Motorcycle Classics, who call it “A mean machine in its day and collectible classic Kawasaki motorcycle today.”
The seller of this example (VIN: JKAKZCR16A001255) uses some text from my site and Motorcycle Classics in his listing, which also goes on to note that he acquired this Kawasaki from the original owner and has only changed the tires. No timeline is given for the purchase or work but based on the seller’s other items for sale this is presumably a quick flip attempt. Everything is said to work and hte sale includes the owner’s manual as well as some sort of sales imagery.
