Post Listing Update: This Super III was pulled off of eBay, final sale price unknown.
Considering that just 179 of the 805 Triumph Super IIIs ever built made it to the US, I see a surprising amount of them for sale. What’s also surprising for a bike this rare is how cheap they can be snapped up for. In fact, I’ve just featured a Super III in an upcoming Smart Money article in Motorcyclist for that very reason. But why wait till that article comes out, because you can get this one right now!
In the early 1990s, famed engine experts Cosworth assisted Triumph in their quest to build a faster version of the Daytona 900. Cosworth’s primary contribution was a new method of pressure sandcasting for the engine cases. In addition to Cosworth’s touch, this bike got bigger cams, flat slide carbs, 6 piston front brakes, and a whole lot of carbon fiber. The results of the engine work yielded a healthy 115 horsepower, though the bike was too heavy to be a true sports bike. It instead ended up being a fantastic sport-tourer, and a bike you had to muscle around to have a lot of fun with.
This example (VIN: 5209043302) has around just 8,000 miles and everything is said to work though there are some scratches in the paintwork. It is offered with no reserve and the starting bid was $1.00. Find it now with bidding up to $2,750 in Tucson, Arizona
