1999 was the first year of the 996, and it was offered in three versions – the base, the S, and the SPS. The main differentiators between the S and the base model were a 11 horsepower bump to 123, an Ohlins shock, and 5-spoke lightweight Marchesini wheels.
This example (VIN: ZDM1SB5T8XB002885) has just 3,017 miles, and it’s said to be “in amazingly sterile condition” with the original Michelin tires. “The bike has never been washed with water, if you look closely in the pictures, all of the original factory grease torque marks are in place.”
It got a full service and new timing belts at 1,959 miles at Ducati of Newport Beach. This bike has a few period upgrades such as the open clutch cover, UltiMap chip, steel braided brake lines, carbon fiber chain guard/sprocket cover/chin spoiler/license plate holder and the Termignoni exhaust. You get all the beauty of the 995 with a little extra power and some component upgrades – what’s not to love?
