Post Sale Update: This Tuono sold for $8,936 after 27 bids on Iconic Motorbike Auctions in Marina del Rey, California.
Just two days ago I was talking about how excited I was to be able to share some more No Reserve bikes on the auction site, and today we’ve got another special Italian. The modern Aprilia Tuono is a perennial shootout winner, but one of my favorites of the model goes back to the beginning – the limited production Tuono Racing.
The stock Tuono was impressive in its own way, but the only-for-2003 Tuono Racing took it to the next level with high-end components including carbon fiber bodywork, OZ wheels, Brembo radial calipers, and Ohlins suspension (forks, steering damper, and shocks). There was also a full factory kit which included a carbon fiber front fairing with number plate/headlight delete, longer carbon fiber belly pan with built-in oil catch tank, mesh taillight cover, reverse-pattern shifter, race chip, and titanium exhaust can. Sometimes you’ll find these and a few parts have gone missing over the years – but this bike has every single part of the factory kit. According to this review on Motorcyclist, just 50 made it to the United States.
This example (VIN: ZD4RPC0593S000091) has 10,451 miles and it’s offered by the original owner, an employee at Yoshimura. He made a couple of modifications (including dual pipes, because “after already owning a TLR, all twins need twin pipes”), but this is a well-maintained, single-owner example of a rare bike that’s guaranteed to sell because there’s no reserve. That’s my favorite kind of listing!
