I’ve been on an odd run of low-serial-number Bimota’s, so why not continue that with this Bimota SB6, which was (fittingly) serial number 6. Production of the SB6 ended in 1996, so the fact that this is titled as a 1997 means it was one of the last ones brought to the states.
Reviewers like to say that this is the last ‘old-school’ Bimota, where they took a fantastic Japanese engine and put it in an exquisite Italian chassis. Not that Bimota isn’t doing that now, but some of the press feels that modern Bimotas do not handle better than the Japanese competition nowadays. Back in the late 90s, though, this bike was something else, thanks to specifications including an Ohlins shock, Paioli forks, and plenty of carbon fiber enveloping the powerplant from a Suzuki GSX-R 1100. For more on the SB6, check out this list from Visor Down, where they proclaim this bike to be one of the 6 sexiest Bimota’s (that’s some excellent company to be in) ever made.
This specific Bimota SB6 (VIN: ZES1SB617VRZES006) has just 49 miles – do Bimota owners ever ride their bikes? 42 of the miles were part of dealer delivery and tune – it has a Bimota cool air kit and carb jet. It was serviced before sale to the current owner, who put another 7 miles on it to make sure it ran, then removed the tank, drained the fuel, and installed his new art piece in his den. The last difference is that this wheel has black wheels (like the tri-color model) and not the original silver.
