Old vs. New – 1975 & 2012 OSSA Explorers

In Dual-Sport, Spain by Abhi2 Comments

In 1972, OSSA released the Explorer – a great name for the kind of riding the bike would be subjected to. The intent was to have a light bike that was easy to ride, something between an enduro and a trials bike. 40 years later, OSSA re-launched the Explorer with some new technology, but a similar intent. Here’s an example of both generations – which would you ride?

Let’s start with the old one. A ’75 model with just 628 miles and one owner, this bike is claimed to be 100% original. It’s currently on display at the New England Motorcycle Museum and it recently was cleaned after being taken apart down to the frame. The paint is claimed to be original but the seller suggests that the tank may have been touched up in the past.

Fast forward 37 years for this 2012 OSSA Explorer – a fuel-injected two stroke. It’s basically a trials bike with a seat, weighing just 175 pounds wet. This example has just 200 miles and it’s stock except for the pegs and rear brake pedal, which were replaced with the beefier units from an OSSA TR280i trials bike.
