The Bimota SB4 was Italy’s take on the Suzuki GSX-R 1100 of the time, following their tradition of giving excellent Japanese engines a worthy chassis.
Just 272 were built. Thanks to a custom 4-into-2 Bimota exhaust, the engine put down 112 horsepower and the bike weighed 465 pounds wet – not bad even in today’s standards. Also known as the Mirage, this bike had Ceriani forks and a De Carbon shock hanging off the hand-built chromoly frame. At the time of its release, this was the only motorcycle that offered radial tires as standard equipment. According to this article in Cycle World, you could buy a new SB4 for $13,989 from Bimota West in the US. (The rest of the article is a solid review on the bike, plus some thoughts on other custom frame makers of the time).
This specific Bimota SB4 (VIN: 00229) has 15,000 miles and has a one-off paint job in Bimota’s racing colors. It’s claimed to be in excellent condition…and that’s all the info you’ll get.
