Here’s a mechanically-refurbished example from the first year of Honda’s iconic Goldwing. 13,000 examples were sold in 1975 at a MSRP of $2,895, and because they were sold in a naked configuration, companies like Vetter made a lot of money selling touring accessories like windscreens and luggage off this platform.
Something you might not know – the gas tank on the 1st generation ‘Wing is actually under the seat to keep weight as low as possible. What looks like the tank is actually a storage space of sorts, which includes fuses and other electrical components but also the coolant overflow tank, a tool kit, and even a lever for the kick starter…just in case. Basic specifications were 80 horsepower from the 999cc flat four, a top speed of 125 miles per hour, and a wet weight of 650 pounds. This example (VIN: GL11002148) is on offer from the third owner, who has put less than 1,000 miles on the bike since he/she acquired it in 2013. The previous owner gave the bike a mechanical refresh in 2010 but the paint has been left in its original condition. The bike has 17,887 miles on the odometer (which works, though total mileage is closer to 20k) and it looks to be in good shape. It’s got current registration and a clean California title. The seller suggests that this is a 1- condition bike on the NADA scale and it would “rate between excellent and concours” condition per Hagerty’s definitions.
