12-28 Update: Almost 2 years later, this bike is back up for sale. It looks to be in similar shape, although mileage is now up to 9,950 (this may be a typo by the seller as it’s the same as the asking price) and the same asking price as before, of $9,950. Find it for sale in Central New Jersey here on ADVRider (registration required).
Post-Listing Update: This KTM RC8 1190 is now off the market.
Today I’ve got something a little different – a bike that’s being offered for sale directly through Bike-urious! It’s always been one of my goals to get this site big enough to help people sell their interesting motorcycles, so hopefully we can help out the original owner of this fantastic RC8. The KTM RC8 has always been a personal favorite as it was such an interesting alternative to the usual Japanese supersports. Originally debuted in 2005 as a concept powered by the 999cc twin from a Super Duke, the angular, distinctive styling was immediately in demand, and expectations were high for KTM’s first superbike.
When it was finally released in 2008, the model instead used the 1148cc V-Twin (it was bumped up to 1195 the following year). Like I said above, expectations were high, but the RC8 did not disappoint. As Motorcycle News sums it up:
The KTM RC8 is the revelation of 2008…even though we’ve known it’s been coming for four years. Perhaps we should’ve given KTM more credit because all their machines (on and off-road) to date are superb. Nonetheless the RC8 is simply stunning and for all the right reasons. Its engine is powerful and usable; handling shames Japanese and Italian superbikes; looks totally different to the norm but is, oh so appealing.
The engine was good for 152 horsepower, 88 pound-ft of torque, and a top speed of 178 miles per hour. Specified equipment was as good as you’d expect – WP suspension, a MotoGP style dash, Brembo Monobloc calipers, and more. Want to learn more? Check out Visor Down’s first ride of the RC8 here.
This specific KTM RC8 1190 is claimed to be number 17 of 50 that were brought into the US in the first year of production. Per the seller, who is the original owner, “I think mine is one of the only ones remaining on the East Coast that wasn’t used and abused on the race track. It’s still basically brand new with 3,900 miles on the odometer. I am a 69 year old grandfather of 4, and the original owner. I loved the industrial design aspects of the bike from the beginning (stealth bomber/insect features), but it’s just too fast for me, and I hate to see it spend most of the time in my garage with a cover on it.”
The owner of this lovely KTM RC8 1190 (offered in New Jersey) is asking $9,950 (original MSRP was over $19,000.) If you’re interested, drop me a line and I’ll put you in touch with the owner. Thanks for reading!
