Original Paint – 1963 Bultaco Matador 200

In Dual-Sport, Spain by AbhiLeave a Comment

Post Sale Update: This Matador sold for $3,800 after 2 bids on eBay in Shelter Island, New York.

Bultaco introduced the Matador as an enduro you could compete with or commute with – an evolution of Bultaco’s 175cc Sherpa-based prototype that had just won an ISDT gold medal. Thanks to equipment like the horn, lights, and gauges, it was a true dual-purpose machine that broadened the Spanish firm’s customer base.

Ensuring that the off-road chops were still there, the Matador was equipped with a 23 hp 2-stroke motor, Pirelli trials tires on Akront wheels, and Betor suspension. For more on the Matador, check out this profile on Motocross Action Magazine.

The seller of this numbers-matching example (VIN: B401136) acquired it from a Bultaco collector in Connecticut nine years ago. He originally took it to a Massachusetts-based restorer, then decided “it seemed crazy to restore a 55 year old original paint motorcycle.” He then instead had it mechanically restored by Hugh’s Bultaco in Craryville, New York, keeping the patina intact. Original looks + mechanical restoration = my ideal combination!
