1966 was the first year of the Shovelhead motor, a powerplant that would last until 1984 when Harley introduced the Evolution. The “Electra Glide” name signified that this bike had an electric starter which was introduced only a year prior. Cycle World was impressed with the Shovel FLH, saying “In its field – high-speed, long-distance touring – the Electra Glide …
1971 Indian Boy Racer
Back in the days when Floyd Clymer owned the Indian name, he dabbled with a few small motorcycles like the Papoose, Indian Boy Racer, MM-5 minibike or the MT series of dirtbikes. One option was the Super Scrambler, which was offered in red/white, blue/white, or yellow/black.
“Rumble” – 2004 Harley-Davidson Sidecar Custom
Called “Rumble”, this gorgeous sidecar rig was built by Dan Stern and is powered by a 2004 H-D Softail. Work started in 2004 and it made its public debut at The One Motorcycle Show in Portland in 2021.
1961 Honda CB92
The Honda CB92 Benly Super Sport was built between 1959 and 1964, and was considered by many to be the best small-displacement sport bike of the time. American Honda says that just 599 examples made it into the US between ’59 and ’62, though over 24,000 were sold worldwide.
1952 Maico Mobil 175
Also called the Maicomobil, this was marketed as a “car on two wheels” with enclosed bodywork, excellent weather protection, and integrated storage space – it was way ahead of its time.
2008 Victory Vision Tour
Speaking of underappreciated touring bikes, the Victory Vision is a motorcycle that I feel never really got the love it deserved. Perhaps that’s because it looks like a spaceship. Or, perhaps that’s because it weighs about as much as a spaceship. But if you can get over those two things it’s a hell of a long-haul machine.
Homemade Jet Ski Scooter
Here’s something we can all agree on: a Sea-Doo that’s been jerry-rigged into a scooter is both wonderfully terrible and terribly wonderful. Even the police officer who pulls you over for not having a license plate will be heartened at the sight of this thing.
2006 Kawasaki ZG1000 Concours
The Kawasaki Concours (aka Connie) has always been one of those “if you know you know” bikes: really awesome motorcycles that inspire an almost fanatical devotion from those who own them, but which are largely overlooked by everyone else. Very sadly, the Concours platform was unceremoniously retired two years ago, after an impressive 36-year run (1986-2022). That run is all …
1999 Honda VT1100 Shadow Tourer
Those saddlebags, though. That’s the feature that has drawn my attention to this listing. Just look at those saddlebags, man. Look how well they fit the lines of the bike. You don’t often find that kind of aesthetic flow with luggage. Of course, everything comes crashing back to Earth when your eye turns to those basic alloy wheels. But if …
1975 Moto Morini 3 1/2 Sport
Inspired by the 3 1/2 that I saw at the Hansen Dam show, here’s an example you can take home for yourself.
Picture Intermission – 45th Annual Hansen Dam Rally
Hosted by the Southern California Norton Owners Club, the Hansen Dam Rally is one of the largest classic British motorcycle events in the US. It’s an excellent opportunity to check out some classic Britbikes and talk shop with their owners, so that’s what I did yesterday. Here are some of my highlights!

Video Intermission – Abhi Races AHRMA at Barber
View Post1991 Honda CBR600F2
The successor of the Hurricane, the CBR600F2 was considered to be quite innovative when released in 1991. Many were sold, but few have withstood the test of time (both in terms of staying rubber side down and in terms of originality) like this one.
Race Bike in France – Nico Bakker Barracuda
Nico Bakker made a name for himself starting back in the 70s by taking Japanese engines and enveloping them in better frames and suspensions. His focus was usually on race bikes, those in recent times he’s also built some road bikes. In the late 90s, Bakker built the Barracuda as a race bike, and he instantly started winning in the …
