In 2010, Ducati announced an interesting program for Monster owners. The Italian firm released a series of body kits that could be installed very quickly (10 minutes) to change up the look of a Monster 696, 796, 1100, or 1100S. This featured 796 has the “Pantah” kit, which has a livery reminiscient of the classic 1981 Ducati Pantah 500SL.
Per this story on AutoEvolution, the other available kits were:
– “Giallo Ducati” Ducati Yellow
– “Lilla Glamour” Lilac
– “Arancione Scrambler” Ducati Scrambler Orange
– “Ducati Corse” Inspired by the new Ducati Corse logo
– “Imola 72” In honor of the Imola 200 winning 750SS
– “Darmah” Modeled after the legendary black and gold striping of the late seventies
– “Isle of Mann 79” A tribute to Ducati’s 1978 Senior TT Win
– “Mach 1” A vibrant red in the spirit of the 1960’s
– “Sport 100” A historic blue from Ducati’s of the past
The kits were cosmetic only, so this bike (VIN: ZDM1RANN2BB048583) is mechanically the same as a regular 796 – except for the fact that it has several great upgrades. It’s offered by the original owner, and it’s been upgraded with an Ohlins shock, 14T front sprocket, Sargent seat, Rizoma handlebar, smog delete, and Tech Spec tank pads. All the original parts (except the sprocket) are included, and the sale includes the original bodywork, all books, the code card, both keys, tools, and records. It’s a pretty compelling package if you’ve been looking for one of these, and the bike has just 9,080 miles. The seller (a long time friend of Bike-urious who I trust completely) notes that the only thing that should be address soon is the tires.
