Post Listing Update: this Harley did not sell despite 50 bids up to $13,100 on eBay.
According to the seller, this Sportster was built as a dragster in the early 60s with HD parts including a XLR exhaust, modified KR frame, KHK flywheel, Hummer forks, and more. The seller (Full Moon Cycle) calls it a “work of art” and notes that he “did not build the engine, just woke it back up.”
Recent work included rebuilding the motor and transmission, installing a new primary drive, boring out the carb, rebuilding the wheels, replacing the tires, rebuilding the magneto, and more pieces that are detailed in the listing. While it’s said to run “very strong”, it unfortunately does smoke and the seller suggests that it could probably use new rings or guides. I like it because the story can be summarized in two sentences:
“It is a barn find, original survivor and I left it how I found it. I just made everything work again.”
The bike made an appearance at the Meltdown Drags in Illinois as well as the Mama Tried show last year, and it seems to have been a popular entry in both.
