Post Listing Update: This T120C did not meet reserve despite 11 bids up to $9,500.
This bike has only had one registered owner, and for the first four years of its life he campaigned it at District 36 AMA events in Northern California. After the seller’s last race in ’65 at the approximate age of 26, the seller brought his bike back home, put it in the garage, and then left it under a cover for more than 5 decades. The owner is now in a retirement home and his neighbor is auctioning the bike off for him. What’s great about this bike is that it comes with lots of documentation supporting the history.
Per the seller, this bike (VIN: D8355) was bought new from Johnson Motors and it has apparently been confirmed by the Triumph Owners Motor Cycle Club that this is one of 100 race bikes built at the Meriden plant for the US market as part of a consignment order. It’s a numbers-matching build that comes with the owner’s competition license, photos of him racing the bike, and some of his race gear. The bike itself will need some work, but considering all the supplemental goodies that come with it, the package seems destined for a high level collection or a museum where it will sit indefinitely.
