Here’s one of the cooler takes on a baby CBR I’ve ever seen – a board tracker! Built by Travis Hartz, this bike would clearly stand out at a CBR gathering. Impressively, Travis has managed to shave off almost 100 pounds from the curb weight, so I wonder how fast it’s become. Here’s Travis’ story on the build:
‘I don’t like the looks of 90% of modern bikes and at 5’8″ and 150 pounds, I also find that most bikes are just huge and heavy. So I did what anyone who has too much time on their hands does and built my own from a blank sheet of paper. I started with a 2011 Honda CBR250R for the the mechanical bits.
The frame, tank and battery box where all made by me using 18 gauge steel. The fenders where 14 gauge blanks that I cut up.
Rims and hubs are from modern Honda motocross bikes with a cush drive in the rear.
It weighs about 260lbs wet. No paint as of yet because I wanted to run it for at least a year long shake down to get everything right. But I am starting to dig the rust. Right now I’m looking for a little bit larger headlight. I recently added a new tail light and put on a 5.75″ headlight’
As you can see, the cover photo (shown again below) has quite a bit more rust than the other photos – that’s because he had the bike on an open trailer when he took it from South Dakota to California and he hit a snow storm! I think it looks cooler:
