Built by Tom Kendall of Speed Lab Garage, this YZ450 competed in the Lightweight category at Pikes Peak this year and has raced multiple seasons of AFM.
First, a quick note about Super Singles – it was a race class developed by Gavin Trippe (founder of Motor Cycle Weekly, the Carlsbad USGP, and…supermoto racing, among many other things). He created this class in 2007 with the intent of making entry level racing much cheaper. The idea was simple: take 450cc MX bikes and convert them into road racers! That’s what you see here with this Yamaha YZ450.
There’s a staggering amount of thoughtful modifications here, and the seller splits it into motor work and chassis work in the listing. The former gets Kibblewhite springs and valves, Hotcams Stage 2 cams, Dynojet quickshifter, STm slipper clutch, Boyesen water pump, Wiseco 13:1 piston, a full titanium exhaust, Lectron carb, and more. The latter gets a R6 front end, stainless steel brake lines, Vortex clipons, custom Ohlins rear shock..the list continues and it’s full of good stuff. If you want more information, I highly recommend you check out this detailed story where the bike was featured on Pipeburn.
The Pikes Peak bodywork utilizes an AirTech tracker seat, carbon number plates, and a KTM 390 bellypan. The bike will also come with the Roland Sands Super Single full fairing:
