1984 was the last year of the XR500R and it went out in style with a victory at the Baja 1000. The following year, Honda would bump up displacement to create the XR600. This example stands out as it is plated, it has just 850 miles, and it looks great.
Basic specifications include a 310 pound wet weight, 36 horsepower, and 30 pound-feet of torque. The 497cc motor was paired with a 5-speed transmission and suspension was handled by Showa on both ends. The rear end featured Honda’s Pro-Link suspension, new for the XR lineup in 1982. The motor in the 500 featured a first in the motorcycling industry: an intake mounted reed cage on a 4-stroke single.
This example (VIN: JH2PE0308EM103296) is plated thanks to a Baja Designs lighting kit. It’s currently registered and has just 850 miles. It comes with new Dunlop tires, a new UFO front disc guard, and a rare Moto-X-Fox bar pad. The seller claims it starts on the first kick and runs flawlessly.
