Blue Steel – 1974 Honda CB360T

Post-Sale Update: After 9 bids on eBay, this CB360T custom sold for $6,700.

I’ve featured a couple of Powder Monkees bikes in the past – my favorite was their CB750 called Wabi Sabi. Here’s the smallest of their builds to date, a CB360T named Blue Steel (I assume that’s a reference to the movie Zoolander).

If you haven’t seen the movie, I apologize for how little sense that makes. Photo from http://www.redbubble.com/people/grady/works/9097162-blue-steel?p=t-shirt

It looks like Powder Monkees is now part of Canada-based Federal Moto, but they’ll still be cranking out builds out of their shop in Chicago, Illinois under the name Federal Moto US. This bike (VIN: CB3601011698) started as a stock runner but it still got a full mechanical refresh as part of the build. In the seller’s words, “this is essentially a brand-new, modernized, vintage motorcycle ready for a new caring owner.”

Blue Steel - Honda CB360T - Right Rear

The intent was to create a motorcycle that blended vintage styling with modern nuances – how would you say that worked? The rear triangle is empty thanks to removal of the stock air box and battery basket, a modern wiring harness was installed with electronic ignition hidden in a custom-fabricated underseat tray, and the frame was cleaned up to accommodate all of that work. New minimalist black gauges show less than 600 miles on the odometer – the result of break-in and the initial service having been completed.
