In the past, BMW has offered a few one-make races such as the BoxerCup with the R1100S. The successor was the Power Cup for the K1200R, and non-racers could get a kit of hop-up parts from certain dealerships in the US. As you guys and gals probably know, I own a BMW K1200R with 89k miles on it and I really enjoy it – which is why I’m very jealous of whoever will get to own this bike next.
A bit mroe on the Power Cup: Randy Mamola was BMW’s ambassador for the series, which was seven races long and started at Le Mans. It then followed multiple MotoGP rounds (Mugello, Assen, Donnington, Sachsenring, Brno, and Valencia). The bulk of the kit was carbon fiber bodywork though the motor got a bump from 163 to 175 horsepower thanks in part to a Laser exhaust. There were 36 racers in the championship and the top three finishers overall got a BMW 6 Series coupe, BMW X3 SUV, and a BMW motorcycle for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions.
This example (VIN: WB10594048ZN56445) has 4,583 miles and I’m sharing it because the owner was able to snag a leftover Power Cup kit from San Jose BMW in 2009. The seller notes that he “does not have the stock take-off parts or the headlight delete” but the goodies include:
– Laser Hotcam exhaust.
– Power Cup carbon fiber intake.
– Power Cup carbon fiber bellypan.
– Power Cup carbon fiber front fender.
– Power Cup carbon fiber tail, rear hugger. LED taillight.
– Power Cup carbon fiber fly screen.
– Power Cup adjustable rearsets, carbon fiber heel guards.
– Power Cup carbon fiber handguards, Rizoma mirrors.
