This bike contains one of my least favorite phrases – “ran when parked”. Despite that, it’s too cool not to feature. Originally imported to the US by Hap Alzina, the west coast BSA dealer, the Pranafa Playboy was a mini-scooter built by Dr. Seiffert in Frankfurt, Germany. The intent was something to have something you could take to work but be so small you could park it at your desk.
This concept of bringing your vehicle to your desk makes me think of one of my favorite segments of Top Gear, where Jeremy drives the Peel P50 around BBC offices:
The Playboy has a monstrous 16cc two-stroke engine which produced about .7 horsepower, depending on who you believe. It has a dry clutch operated by a foot pedal. According to the seller, Shriners used to ride these before they moved on to the Honda Mini Trail? For more on this mini-scooter, check out this brief writeup from Collectors Weekly.
This specific Pranafa Playboy looks to be in good shape but info is sparse from the seller. It was put in storage over 20 years ago and the sale will include an original instruction manual from Hap Alzina.
Find this Pranafa Playboy for sale in Hutchinson, Kansas for $2,700 here on Craigslist.
