The Norton Commando Production Racer was a street legal factor racer made available to privateer racers for homolgation purposes. Affectionately known as the Yellow Peril, it’s one of the coolest Norton’s of all time, which is why you’ll occasionally find replicas like this one.
Fun fact – the Production Racer retailed for $1,900 at a time when you could buy an Austin Mini for less than $1,500. That dough got you higher compression pistons, a racing camshaft, shortened pushrods, and options including 32mm carbs and electronic ignition. Thanks to some careful tuning, Norton was able to eke out nearly 12 more ponies from the 745cc twin, yielding a bike that could hit 131 miles per hour. For more information, head on over to Motorcycle Classics for an in-depth writeup on the Production Racer.
This example presumably does not have those engine modifications done, though it does have Ohlins fully adjustable rear shocks, AP Racing brake calipers up front, a rebuilt four speed gearbox, a powder coated frame, and more. At least you won’t be paying real Yellow Peril money for this bike…
