Rapido Sport America in Italy – 1971 MV Agusta 150 RSA

Post Listing Update: This MV did not get any interest at the opening bid of $4,500.

In 1959, Italy introduced a rule that made it illegal to ride on the highway with a bike that displaced less than 150cc. MV Agusta responded by taking their 125 and creating a family of models around a 150 motor including the Gran Turismo, Rapido Sport, and the Rapido Sport America (RSA). Per the seller, the RSA was only exported to the US, which makes sense – though this one has made its way back to Italy. Per Bonhams, the changes for the “America” were “raised handlebars and crash bars“. I only see the former on this example.

To be frank, I really struggled to find information specifically about the RSA. I know that approximately 6,500 examples of the “RS” were built starting in 1959 and that the 4-stroke motor was good for approximately 10 horsepower. MV claimed a top speed of 71 miles per hour, which seems optimistic. So if you know anything specific about this little Italian, please chime in with a comment below!

This example was restored in 2008 and has only been ridden “for a couple of historic meetings.” It’s claimed to be in excellent condition and is ready to show or ride. Find this RSA in Bassano del Grappa, Italy with an unmet opening bid of $4,590
