Post Listing Update: This SP4 got no interest at the opening bid of $19,000.
In 1992, Ducati introduced the 4th version of their Sport Production 888 – simply called the SP4. It was produced along side the base 851 and the very exotic Sport Production Special (SPS). Both SP bikes got Brembo brakes and Ohlins supension, plus the “1” racing number. The SP4 had the same engine specs as the SP3 (except for bigger valves), though the bodywork was revised. It’s a rare, classic Ducati – and this one is #420.
At the time, Ducati was having good success with World Superbike racing on this platform. The SP4 put out approximately 105 horsepower at the rear wheel, and the bolted on components were high spec’d. Ducati would ended up moving away from Ohlins forks with the SP5, and some Ducati fans feel like the SP4 was the peak of the line. VisorDown might agree – they call it one of the 10 bikes in their Dream Ducati Garage. This bike has 18,139 miles and it comes with all the original sales paperwork and tool kit. The seller has recently given it a full tune up and brake service.
