Post Listing Update: This Mountaineer was pulled off of eBay, final sale price unknown.
In the mid 60s, Ducati offered a pair of singles called the Cadet and the Mountaineer – the Cadet was a road bike and the Mountaineer (as you can guess from the name) was more of a dual-sport before the term existed. Both were available in 90 or 100cc options – obviously we’ve got one of the former here.
The 90cc (actually a 86.7) produced 6 horsepower, which was sufficient to get the 150 pound motorcycle up to 56 miles per hour. Top speed obviously wasn’t important here, as it was advertised in an issue of American Motorcycling Magazine in August of 1963 as being “designed and engineered specifically for the sportsman who wants to do a lot of ‘off the road riding’.”
This example starts and runs but it’s being sold as a restoration candidate. Thankfully, all the parts are there (including the air pump) and the odometer says it has just 620 miles. Not so thankfully, it does not have a title. As a relative young’un, I find it stunning to see a sticker for a dealership that sold Royal Enfield, Ducati, Parilla, and Norton. So cool:
