The country of Portugal isn’t well-known for producing motorcycles, but the SIS V5 Sport was one of the most famous – the Portuguese government even made a stamp of it as part of a series they did on motorcycles of their home country.
The bike was designed by Antonio Quadros and it utilized a Sachs 50cc engine that produced about 5.3 horsepower. The V5 weighed about 150 pounds and it was available in a touring version, racing version, or the sport version as shown here.
This example (VIN: 2340) is claimed to be the only known example of the ’65 model (first year of sales) that was exported to the US. Over the last few years, the bike was given a ‘nut and bolt restoration’ and enjoyed briefly. The seller decided to install a new piston, and in the process of installation discovered the engine had a bent rod. So now the bike is waiting for someone to take car of the bent rod, address a small crack in the lower front fork, take care of some minor cosmetics, and then hook up the brake light and speedo. It’s not a trivial amount of work but this bike is quite rare. I’m hoping someone brings it back to life soon.
