Post Sale Update: This AX125 sold for $1,026 after 5 bids on eBay.

Marketed as “The Multi-Purpose Motorcycle”, the AX125 was an idea that made sense on paper – Alouette was a Canadian snowmobile manufacturer that decided they should also sell dirt bikes so that there dealerships would have products to sell and maintain when there wasn’t snow on the ground. Unfortunately, they couldn’t compete with Can-Am and only about 700 examples were built before the company was bought by the toy manufacturer Coleco and shut down.

Propulsion was provided by a Sachs 122cc motor through a six-speed transmission. Components included Girling shocks, Motoplat ignition, a Bing carb, and VDO gauges. For more on Alouette and their story, check out this write-up from Classic Jap Cycles. This example (VIN: 600331) has 662 miles and it does not start. The motor is said to kick over with compression and the seller has cleaned the tank and carb, but there’s a weak spark and you may need to replace the points. There’s some rust in the wheels but the bodywork is in generally good shape with just one crack in the front fender.
